Zantac Range

The active ingredient in Zantac is ranitidine (as hydrochloride) which belongs to a group of medicines called H2-Receptor antagonists. Ranitidine is an acid reducing medicine. It works by reducing the volume of acid the stomach produces to provide long-lasting relief from heartburn.

With a single Zantac or Zantac Double Strength tablet, relief starts from 30 minutes.

Zantac tablets are free from both gluten and lactose.

One tablet of Zantac contains 150mg ranitidine (as hydrochloride) and Zantac Double Strength contains 300mg ranitidine (as hydrochloride). Zantac provides up to 12 hour relief and Zantac Double Strength provides up to 24 hour relief from symptoms of heartburn and acid indigestion. Zantac Double Strength is intended for people who routinely need to take two Zantac tablets to relieve their heartburn symptoms.

The dosage needed to relieve heartburn symptoms may vary from person to person based on the frequency and severity of your heartburn symptoms.
If you find you routinely need to take two 150mg tablets to relieve your symptoms, you can, instead, take one 300mg Zantac Double Strength tablet.

The maximum dose of Zantac (150mg ranitidine) is 2 tablets in 24 hours
The maximum dose of Zantac Double Strength (300mg ranitidine) is 1 tablet in 24 hours

Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) reduce production of stomach acid in a different way than Zantac. PPIs can provide symptom relief for up to 24 hours but may take hours or even days to take effect. Zantac is fast-acting with relief starting from 30 minutes, offering faster relief from heartburn symptoms compared to PPIs.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you’re pregnant, likely to get pregnant or are breastfeeding. Your doctor will tell you if you can take Zantac. You should always talk to your doctor before taking any medicine during pregnancy.

Like other medications, Zantac may cause some side effects. The most frequent side effects reported include headaches, tiredness, dizziness and mild gastrointestinal disturbance.
